This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no accounts or logins. Our host keeps ordinary server logs for a limited period. Fonts are loaded from Google's servers, so Google receives that request. Email you send us is kept only as long as it takes to answer it.
No accounts, no cookies
Know Your Auction is a set of static pages. There is nothing to sign up for, no comment system and no shopping basket, so there is no account data to hold. We set no cookies of our own, and we do not use local storage in your browser to track you between visits.
Server logs
Our web host records the ordinary access log that any web server keeps: the requested page, a timestamp, your IP address, the referring page and your browser's user-agent string. These logs exist so that the site can be kept working and abuse can be investigated. They are retained for a limited period and then deleted, and we do not use them to build a profile of you or combine them with anything else.
Fonts loaded from Google
The typefaces on this site are served by Google Fonts rather than from our own server. That means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when a page loads, and Google receives your IP address and user-agent as part of that request, subject to Google's own privacy terms. If we move the font files onto our own server later, this section will be updated to say so.
Analytics
There is no analytics or tracking script on the site at launch. We do not know which pages you read. If we add measurement later we will update this page before it goes live and describe exactly what is collected, and we will look for something that does not require cookies.
Email you send us
If you write to us, we keep the message for as long as it takes to answer it and to record any correction it produced. Correspondence is not added to a mailing list, and there is no newsletter to be signed up for. We do not sell, rent or share reader email addresses with anyone, including auction platforms and dealers.
Links to other sites
Pages here link out to platforms, regulators and manufacturers. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site under their privacy terms, which are usually less restrained than these. We have no control over what they collect.
